So David Bailey

The talk on wednesday night, hosted by D&AD at Logan hall, was amazing.


A good hour and a half gave Bailey plenty of time to indulge the audience on amazing stories about his struggle with dyslexia and how in the end it really aided his success. 

There was also a lot of discussion into what helped make good photography, and being able to recognise an opportune accident, from a bad accident. The intelligence of a bad accident, like in one of his experiences with a lens which was messed up in production, and therefore made the pictures not quite what they were supposed to be, but in-fact still made beautiful images. Bailey had the intelligence to appreciate the accident and used it to his advantage. 

"Make your own mistakes be true to yourself, do what you want" - brief note. 

He also spoke about the accidental nature of the universe. He really opened your eyes to the opportunities which we over look everyday. 

Truly inspirational.

PCB feedback

Today I got told the shoot that I did for the PCB promo has been edited and re-scripted and has gone down really well. So soon enough I'll be getting a copy! 


Today we had a Crit session about our work for our: pyscho-anaylsis of someones room.... 

Not the most thrilling pictures but it's weird how much you can get about someones personality from their room.

Alex Clare vs VMC essay

VMC essay this is the only thing keeping me sane. Despite the fact I love getting to write about Brian Duffy, it's just the making sense bit... 

PCB shoot

Yesterday I went on a shoot with a cameraman, Duncan also my Dad, and a director, James, who were shooting a 2 minute promotional video.


Although PCB's (circuit board) manufacturing doesn't sound all that interesting, doing the shoot emphasised the level of intricacy that the employers work involves everyday. Hand wiring, soldering joints etc through a microscope. Really concentration based... not something I personally would choose to do but much appreciated. 


The promo footage included multiple close ups of the intricate boards and process of soldering pieces together and machinery. Unfortunately I can't stress how the boards are actually amazing close up. 
They look like tiny metal villages on an un-humanly flat landscape maybe sometimes coming across a sky scraper or something. Anyway that's how I would look at them. 


Duncan showed me how they used the depth of field to create interesting shots also how background movement made it more natural and less staged. Unfortunately I couldn't take any photographs but will receive a copy of the final video.

Because quite frankly planes are boring.

Ryanair need to sort out how yellow their interiors are...
